I always teach based on the students needs, never following a fixed curriculum.

For students who also aim to sing, the combination of Handpan and Voice can be an additional topic in the lesson.

For me, it was love at first sight —perhaps even before sight. When I was about 6 or 7, I saw a television program featuring the steel drum players of Trinidad and the process of making steel drums.

I was instantly captivated by the sound and fell in love with the instrument. My parents were supportive and inquired at the local music school about steel drum lessons. Unfortunately, there was no teacher available, so they put me in flute lessons, eventually transitioning me to the drum set.

There was then a long gap between me and the handpan (which hadn't yet been invented at the time).

Around 2005, I saw my first serious percussion teacher performing a solo concert. During that concert, he played a solo piece on the PanArt Hang.

I was completely blown away. In fact, there is a recording of that concert, and after the solo piece, you can hear me in the audience shouting, "Wow!"

That was it for me. Really the beginning of my Handpan journey.

Unless you are also based in Hamburg - Germany, Classes are held online. Online lessons allow you to learn comfortably from your home. I teach via Skype, Zoom or Google Meet and have successfully done so with students for years. Learning online has proven to be highly effective.
In Hamburg I teach in my studio located in central Hamburg. Just reach out to me for the exact location.

I am available for bookings on Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM. Your first lesson will be scheduled within one week after purchase.
Yes sure! Very welcome. Learning in groups can be a great experience. Just send me a message and we talk it through.
No! The handpan is a very accessible instrument. Due to its fixed tuning, there are no difficulties with tuning or intonation. Therefore, the first steps on the handpan are quite easy. At the same time, the instrument offers an ocean of possibilities and can also be played with virtuosity.
I recommend practicing at least 2-3 times a week for 30 minutes. However, as always, practice makes perfect: the more you practice, the faster you progress. At the same time, music should always bring joy. We always want to be inspired. :)
This cannot be answered universally. For beginners, it is recommended to attend lessons regularly. Ideally weekly or at least every two weeks in order to build a good foundation. After about 6 months, most people are able to move more freely on the instrument.
For advanced players, fewer lessons are sufficient, but they should be more compact.
